The large population of shore birds is responsible for its name, the Spanish explorers named it after the white bird guano covered giant rocks, “Piedras Blancas,” in English “White Rocks”.The property is often behind a locked gate but it is open at times for tours and it is worth your time you should include a light station tour in your road trip plans. www.blm.gov/.../tours.html Telephone: (805) 927-2968; Special Tour Arrangements: (805)927-7361
