Information: Mill Creek Beach Photo: there are restrooms and picnic tables at this nice beach day use area. The beach is large rocks and gravel and its size and accessibility depends on the tides. Mill Creek Beach day use picnic area is a favorite of fishermen, surfers and photographers.
Near Points of Interest: A great photo opportunity you won't want to miss comes 18 miles north at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park called McWay Falls; you should park your car in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park parking lot there are several nice trails in including the short one that leads to the McWay Falls overlook; there are trails that go into the beautiful redwood forest and 1.9 miles north of the Julia Pfeiffer Burns main entrance is the very popular coastal hiking area Partington Canyon.
Beach Access and Day Use Picnic Areas: Mill Creek is a quite nice picnic/beach area but a close north option is Kirk Creek Campground just a mile north, it has a nice short trail that leads down to the beach which is a popular spot for surfing, rock fishing and beachcombing. Limekiln State Park is the next beach access north and it is only a few miles; one of the best beaches on the Big Sur coast is Pfeiffer State Beach it is 26.5 miles, the turnoff is at Sycamore Canyon; another great long white sandy Big Sur Beach which is popular is Sand Dollar Beach which provides easy access to a large picnic area with restrooms and barbecue grills on the top of the bluff, there is a nice long big sandy beach at the bottom of some steep stairs, Sand Dollar Day Use Pincnic Area and Beach is a little over a mile south.
Near places to Eat: My favorite Big Sur Ocean View restaurant Nepenthe is 24 miles north on the scenic PCH; Lucia is just 6 miles north and has a very nice ocean view restaurant (try the fish & chips) and the closest restaurant to the south is the Whale Watcher Cafe at Gorda which is 13 miles or Treebones which is about 12 miles.
Near Hotel Lodgings & Resorts: Lucia Lodge 4 miles ahead to the north and the Gorda Springs Cottages are 13 miles south.
Near Campgrounds: There is a tiny environmental tent campground with the much sought after highly coveted handful of ocean view tent campsites at Julia Pfeiffer Burns California State Park 13 miles ahead but it is always filled from reservations. The closest other campground is to the south about 1 mile Kirk Creek Campground; the closest one to the north would be Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park which is 18 miles north.
Other Facilities, Services or Activities: On the coast in this area the traveler services and tourist facilities are sparse and spread out and this won't change for the next 25 miles. |
