Information: Limekiln State Park Beach Photo: Limekiln State Park was closed several years because of the 2008 wildfires but most areas and services are back. Prices are up though so expect to pay even to park your car; this is of course going to be true for all the California State Parks. Limekiln State Park has many attractions, access to a sandy beach, campgrounds, inspiring redwood forests, Limekiln Creek Waterfalls and a trail into Big Sur history are some of the attractions of Limekiln State Park 716 beautiful acres of coastal land in southernmost Big Sur.
Near Points of Interest: A great photo opportunity you won't want to miss comes 15 miles north at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park called McWay Falls; you should park your car in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park parking lot there are several nice trails in including the short one that leads to the McWay Falls overlook; there are trails that go into the beautiful redwood forest and 1.9 miles north of the Julia Pfeiffer Burns main entrance is the very popular coastal hiking area Partington Canyon.
Beach Access and Day Use Picnic Areas: Limekiln has great beach access the next beach access is about 17 miles north and a short hike down a trail to Partington Cove which is historic and beautiful but there isn't much of a beach at that location, there is really no good beach access anywhere near here, the high steep cliffs don’t allow it; the closest beach access north to a nice beach (Pfeiffer State Beach) is 23.5 miles the turnoff is at Sycamore Canyon; the beach access to the south is 2 miles at Kirk Creek Campground. Lucia Lodge has a very nice grassy ocean view picnic area and there is wonderful picnic area in the redwoods at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park 15 miles ahead; the closest one to the south is Mill Creek Day use area which is next to the beach.
Near places to Eat: My favorite Big Sur Ocean View restaurant Nepenthe is 21 miles north on the scenic PCH; Lucia is just 3 miles north and has a very nice ocean view restaurant (try the fish & chips) and the closest restaurant to the south is the Whale Watcher Cafe at Gorda which is 16 miles or Treebones which is about 15 miles.
Near Hotel Lodgings & Resorts: Lucia Lodge 3 miles ahead to the north and the Gorda Springs Cottages are 16 miles south.
Near Campgrounds: There is a tiny environmental tent campground with the much sought after highly coveted handful of ocean view tent campsites at Julia Pfeiffer Burns California State Park 12 miles ahead but it is always filled from reservations. The closest other campground is to the south 2 miles Kirk Creek Campground; the closest one to the north would be Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park which is 17 miles north.
Other Facilities, Services or Activities: On the coast in this area the traveler services and tourist facilities are sparse and spread out and this won't change for the next 24 miles. |
