Unlike most of the Big Sur resorts the Post Ranch Inn and the Ventana Inn & Spa are not right on the Pacific Coast Highway; but they aren’t far and they are plainly marked on the highway. I can’t really afford either of these Big $ur re$ort$ but my friends tell me they are incredible.
These are not the kind of places where your children are welcome; this is the type of place you take your significant other for a treat. The people I know like to go there and pretend they are rich; they are well off but actually it’s a big tax write-off.
If you would like to compare the lodgings in Big Sur this website has a guide which includes all the Big Sur Hotel Lodgings, personally I prefer the Big Sur Campgrounds; Ventana used to have a very nice campground but it has been closed a couple of seasons for renevations, hopefully it will be open for 2011 season. If you are planning on being hungry during your trip there is a Guide to All the Big Sur Restaurants but I must say my favorite Big Sir Restaurant for breakfast is Ragged Point Inn Restaurant and for lunch or dinner it is Nepenthe.
