Information: The beautiful Big Sur River near the mouth which empties into the Pacific Ocean at the beach in the Andrew Molera State Park.
Near Points of Interest: Andrew Molera California State Park has many in-park activities for fun and exploration the many offerings of the historic Point Sur Light Station, Grarrapata State Park, Point Lobos, Carmel and Monterey are not too far to the north. Big Sur itself is just a short drive south. The south end of the Coast Road is located across Highway 1 from the entrance to the park; this unpaved road travels inland, bypassing the mouths of Bixby Creek and the Little Sur River, crossing their canyons at higher elevations. A high-clearance vehicle is required, and mountain bike or a 4-wheel drive vehicle is recommended.
Beach Access and Day Use Picnic Areas: available at the park as are the beach and miles of hiking trails and horseback riding tours
Near places to Eat: the Rocky Point Restaurant is about 11 miles north and the Maiden Publick House is about 3 miles to the south
Near Hotel Lodgings & Resorts: Carmel River Inn is 21 miles north and Big Sur River Inn is the closest south 3 miles
Near Campgrounds: Andrew Molera has a campground which is a 1/3 mile walk-in camp; Botcher's Gap Campground is about 1 mile north up Pacific Coast Highway One and 7.8 miles inland at the end of Palo Colorado Road.
Other Facilities, Services or Activities: the surf and river fishing are both good, the park has a museum and there is a surf spot too a seasonal waterfall (Highbridge Waterfall) and great nature study |
