Big Sur’s newest eatery is already winning culinary awards; their Mushroom Grilled Cheese Sandwich won "Best Overall Flavor" at the 2012 Big Sur Chanterelle Cook-Off and Festival and it's easy to see why. Their outstanding chanterelle grilled cheese was stuffed with sauteed chanterelles, fontina and jack cheese, yummm. Big Surs newest restaurant/pub, The Big Sur Taphouse has wine, beer and eight beers on tap; the food menu is pretty limited but you can bring any food you want into the place and the Big Sur Deli is right next door (same owners). There is friendly service, a cozy fireplace indoors and boardgames to play. Definitely stop here for a laid-back, very reasonably priced and delicious meal and tap-beer. Open daily ; located in the Big Sur Center next to the Deli near the Post Office.

The Big Sur Lodge Restaurant & Coffee House is the restaurant of the Big Sur Lodge that is located in the Pfeiffer State Park and is a historic offspring of the original Homestead of John and Florence Pfeiffer in 1902. The family oriented Big Sur Lodge Restaurant has both indoor and outdoor dinning serving American Style food and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 to 9 daily. The freshly prepared foods are served in a spacious, airy atmosphere with views of the redwoods. Children always welcome at the Big Sur Lodge Restaurant and Coffee House. The Coffee House offers gourmet espresso drinks, specialty teas, ice cream and snacks, and deli sandwiches.

Before it was the Maiden Publick House it was the Village pub, as long as I can remember there has been at least one tavern in Big Sur offering some good reasonably priced lunch and dinner alternative to the high priced upscale Big Sur eateries; conveniently located next to the Big Sur River Inn Resort in the Village Center Shops.
The Maiden Publick House has been offering good affordable pub grub and now under new ownership they say they have the best fish and chips in Big Sur as well as great burgers and other good sandwiches and appetizers, this tavern offers a comfortable sports bar which includes an outdoor patio.
