The restaurants listed on this page are organized from south to north in the order they fall on the Pacific Coast Highway 1; there is also a clickable list towards the top of the page which lists all the places to eat near Big Sur in alphabetical order. I have also included in each listing all the information and links concerning that eatery. These restaurants, cafes, barbecue grills delicatessens and coffee bars span about 90 miles of the breathtaking scenic Pacific Coast Highway 1 which I have traveled many times over the past 40 plus years. Operating any business along the Big Sur Coast is an expensive proposition and none of these eateries are cheap but if you are on a tight budget I would suggest to go to the ocean view resort the Ragged Point Inn, the food at the Ragged Point Hamburger Stand is excellent and if you can't afford the reasonable costs then take a picnic lunch but Ragged Point should be a must stop regardless. Another good stop along the Pacific Coast Highway 1 is the Lucia Lodge, they have nice restrooms, a general store for snacks and drinks and nice little ocean view restaurant if you want to eat a meal. I have been stopping and dining on the ocean view deck at Nepenthe since the 60's; it is a long Big Sur Coast ocean view favorite of highway travelers and locals alike. With prices what they are today you will want to check out my reasonably priced Carmel favorites. So enjoy your Big Sur Coast escape, happy trekking and tasting!
BEST BIG SUR STOP!! The ocean view resort called the Ragged Point Inn is the very best place to stop along the Scenic Big Sur Pacific Coast Highway 1. Yes it is the finest place to get something good and reasonably priced to eat or an excellent espresso coffee drink but beyond that the best views on the Big Sur California Pacific Coast are FREE!

Lucia Lodge restaurant offers a spectacular Big Sur Coast Pacific Ocean view deck enjoyable outdoor dining, as well as a charming, comfortable and historic ocean viewdining room. I stop at the Lucia Lodge almost every time I travel the Big Sur Pacific Coast Highway; the Lodge is half way between Cambria and Carmel right on the highway; for me it's a nice place to stretch legs, grab a cup of coffee from the lodges convenience store and use the handicapped accessible restrooms.

831-667-2355 Before it was the Maiden Publick House it was the Village pub, as long as I can remember there has been at least one tavern in Big Sur offering some good reasonably priced lunch and dinner alternative to the high priced upscale Big Sur eateries; conveniently located next to the Big Sur River Inn Resort in the Village Center Shops.
The Maiden Publick House has been offering good affordable pub grub and now under new ownership they say they have the best fish and chips in Big Sur as well as great burgers and other good sandwiches and appetizers, this tavern offers a comfortable sports bar which includes an outdoor patio.
